Backhoe Course Description:
Backhoes are used in applications such as digging
footings, basements, drainage ditches, utility trenching,
backfilling, and maintaining slopes and embankments in construction,
industrial, and landscaping settings.
Course Description:
- Perform pre-trip inspection
- Greasing and lubing equipment
- Nomenclature, identifying, and understanding of all controls
- Use of front-end loader to load dirt
- Use of backhoe attachment to dig trenches of specific depth and length
- Replacing a cutting edge
- OSHA and industry standards of open excavations
Student Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Test the safety rules related to the backhoe and the safety rules related to the job site
- Identify every component and attachments of the backhoe
- Point and identify the nomenclature of the backhoe to include all controls
- Demonstrate the ability to:
- Perform a daily inspection
- Start, warm up, check all gauges and controls to ensure that everything is working properly
- Follow proper shut down procedures of the machine
- Set up properly
- Dig a trench the width of the backhoe bucket, approximately 40 feet deep and no less than 40 feet long
- Carry a straight line while excavating a trench
- Backfill and back drag techniques
- Load a truck using either the loader bucket or the backhoe
- Replace the cutting edge when needed
