Excavator Course Description:
The term excavator is sometimes used as a general term for any piece
of digging equipment. Tracked excavators are sometimes called track hoes. Excavators are used in many roles such as digging (trenches, holes, foundations etc.), demolition, general grading/landscaping, heavy lifting (e.g. lifting and placing of pipes, river dredging etc.).
Course Description:
- Preparing sub-base
- Digging on uneven surfaces
- Backfilling trenches
- Loading trucks with excavator
- Digging trenches to grade
- Use of transit and hand held level
- Crossing trenches
- Setting up on open excavations
- Benching techniques
- OSHA and Industry Standards
Student Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Inspect (pre-trip) and grease an excavator
- Determine and maintain grade
- Replace normal-wear parts (cutting edge and teeth)
- Operate the excavator safely and efficiently on uneven terrain
*Knowledge will be tested through verbal questions and answers, and performance tests.
