Course Description:
- Safe operation of a front-end loader
- Loading a 20 yard dump truck to capacit.
- Stockpiling
- Ramping
- Digging an excavation
- Bulldozing techniques
Front-End Loaders are commonly used for uploading sand, dirt and mud into trucks, and clearing rubble. Although they are also used for digging, a front-end loader is not the most efficient machine for digging because it cannot dig much deeper than the level of its wheels, like a backhoe can. The deep bucket can store approximately 3-5 cubic meters of earth, exact numbers vary with the model being used. The front-end loader's bucket capacity is much larger than the bucket capacity of a backhoe loader.
In construction areas, primarily when repairing a road in the middle of a city, front-end loaders are also used to transport building materials - such as bricks, metal bars and digging tools - over short distances.
Unlike bulldozers, most front-end loaders are wheeled, not tracked. Wheels provide better mobility (and speed) and do not damage paved roads.
